INSTALLATION |
The Australian Standards state that equipment should be installed as per the manufacturer's requirements. Additionally any other item used in the installation of equipment has to be approved to Australian Standards and installed as per that manufacturer's requirements.

Commissioning
(Initial start up testing to confirm that the unit is operating as the manufacturer intended) - all equipment is required to be commissioned by the person who installs the equipment or connects the services to the equipment. The consumer, where available, is to be instructed on the safe and correct operation of the appliance and any auxiliary equipment. The operating instructions are to be handed to the consumer or if the consumer is not present, the instructions are to be left in a suitable location at the premises.
Gas Heating
Covered by ASNZ 5601. Below is a summary of the main points. The specific details of these clauses can be obtained from the Plumbing Industry Commission. See PIC tab for their role and contact details.
Section 5.2.5. Manufacturer's instructions for installation - Appliances shall be installed in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.
5.2.6. Installation is to be safe
5.3.3. Appliance to be accessible
5.3.4. Appliance not to be a hazard to a building or person
5.3.5. Appliance not to be near flammable vapours, materials or chemicals
5.3.6. Appliance not to stand in water
5.3.11. Appliance in a roof space
5.3.11(c) Location of appliance to allow for lighting and servicing. Permanent fixed means of access is required where the appliance location is beyond the extent of a normal step or ladder.
5.3.11(d) A walkway is to be provided from the access point to the appliance and shall extend around the appliance to a point where access may be required for lighting or servicing.
5.3.11(f) Permanent artificial lighting is to be provided at the appliance, with the switch located adjacent to the access opening.
5.3.11(g) Clearances as stated in the manufacturer's installation instructions are to be observed, to provide adequate clearances for servicing and removal of burners, fans and any other components.
NOTES: 1. Ducting is not to reduce the clearances required in (g) or intrude on the walkway
5.3.13 Appliance under a floor
5.3.13(a) There is to be a minimum clearance of 200mm between the lowest part of the floor structure and any part of the appliance
5.3.13(b) To allow adequate access to appliance -
(i) the appliance is to be located within 2 m of the access opening; or
(ii) there is to be a minimum clearance of 1.2 m between the lowest part of the floor structure and ground level, maintained from the access opening to the appliance.
5.3.13(c) The appliance is to stand on a level concrete base of at least 50mm thickness or be suspended above the ground level.
5.3.13(d) Fixed artificial lighting is to be provided at the appliance, with the switch located adjacent to the access opening.
5.13 Flueing
5.13.1.2 Flue installation not to reduce building strength or fire resistance
5.13.3.3 Flue gases not to cause a nuisance
5.13.4.1 Provision for removal of appliance
5.13.4.2 Flue to be supported independently of appliance
5.13.4.3 Support of flue - A flue shall be securely fixed and adequately supported by the bracket(s) fastened to the building structure at suitable points, to ensure the stability of the flue.
5.13.6.4 Location of flue terminal
Except where Clauses 5.13.6.5 or 5.13.6.7 apply a flue terminal shall be -
(a) at least 1 m horizontally from the neighbouring structure; or
(b) if less than 1 m horizontally from a neighbouring structure, at least 500 mm above that structure;
(c) at least 1.5 m from any opening into a building; and
(d) at least 200 mm from another flue terminal
